Continuing to archive off-air recordings of, primarily, U.S. based shortwave pirate radio shows as I heard them. I hope these off-air recordings will convey a sense of "being there" as these impromptu shows were happening.
The operator of Sycko Radio usually runs live shows spontaneously, often with guests in the studio and occasionally checking logs in real-time and giving shout-outs to listeners posting on the web. Because his playlist can vary from industrial one night to big band and swing another, fans recognize his shows from the op's distinctive voice, familiar characters and guest hosts (the cantankerous "Uncle Bob," bubbly "Red" and others), and signature jingles and songs. The "International Shortwave" jingle is often played during segues, and shows may include the songs "Mr. Psycho (He'll blow you away)" by Space, "Radio/Video" by System of a Down and "Heavy" by Over Core.
This show on 6925.5 kHz USB ran from just before 0100 UTC to 0138 UTC and included: Sycko talking about 8-track tapes, Sublime's "Wrong Way," Space "Mr. Psycho (He'll blow you away)," operator saying he can't check FRN logs (popular pirate radio website) but giving shout-outs to regular listeners; declaring "...free-form freakin' radio..." while digging around for next song, a souped up, mashed up version of Rush "Tom Sawyer"; mention of Liquid Radio, a fellow pirate operator who runs in AM mode; "Radio/Video" by System of a Down.
SINPO - 34243. Fairly steady signal, audio sounds a bit compressed and midrangy, punching through usual summer thunderstorm static crashes well.
